Simply put, a pardon is the Canadian government’s way of saying that you have paid your debt to society, and that justice has been served. Now, you deserve a fresh start that is free from discrimination. In other words, you should have the same opportunities to get a job, travel, adopt and volunteer as any other Canadian.

Legally speaking, if you were convicted of a criminal offence, a pardon will seal your record. “Sealed” means that your record will no longer be accessible and that it will be kept separate from all other criminal records.
